One of the July 2009 airings of On the Media featured no fewer than three stories related to knowledge engineering. This exceeds the typical coverage in the software trade press - say ComputerWorld, for instance.- Intel's "Dispute Finder," which is a natural language processing system (though not described as such per se);
- The US Patent Office's use of crowdsourcing (a variant thereof) to assist in identifying relevant prior art and assist in determining the legitimacy of applications. Worth pointing out that this innovation is a form of transparency that should be more widely adopted in the government.
- (My favorite) Netflix offered a $1M prize to a team that could improve its recommendation engine by 10%.
OTM is produced by WNYC for NPR.
